Steele County is in the southern part of Minnesota. The population as of the 2010 census was 36,576. The county seat is Owatonna. The county was named for Franklin Steele a prominent early resident of the state. The Straight River flows northward though the county and the Le Sueur River runs through the southwestern corner. The middle fork of the Zumbro River is also in Steele County.

The county administrator is the administrative head of Steele County and is responsible for the overall management of county operations.

The Steele County Detention Center is under the jurisdiction of the Steele County Sheriff’s office. The Steele County Detention Center provides for the safe and humane housing of individuals committed to our custody. The facility has a capacity of 154 beds. The Facility houses male and female pre-sentence and sentenced detainee, detainees form other countries, state, and federal organizations.

Visitation Schedule, Mail, Calls and Funds

Visiting is via video. There is no face to face contact between the visitor and the inmate. There are two 20 minute visits per day from the lobby area. Visitors may only see one inmate per visiting sessions but can visit the same inmate two times in one day at different sessions.

You can also visit an inmate from home by logging into www.inmatecanteen.com and following the instructions. Online home visits are .39 cents per minute.
