Faribault County is located in the state of Minnesota; it was founded in February 20, 1855 and named after Jean-Baptiste Faribault, a settler and French fur trader among the Sioux Indians. Blue Earth is the largest city in the county and also the count seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 14,553 and a total area of 722 square miles, of which 9.4 square miles (1.3%) is water and 712 square miles is land. Faribault County   borders the following counties: Blue Earth County to the north, Waseca County to the northeast, Freeborn County to the east, Winnebago County, Iowa to the southeast,  Kossuth County, Iowa to the southwest and  Martin County to the west.
