Brown County Minnesota Public Records

Brown County is located in the state of Minnesota; the county was formed in 1855, organized in 1856 and named after Joseph Renshaw Brown, a member of the Governor’s Council of Minnesota in 1855. New Ulm is the largest city in the county and also the county seat.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 25,893 and a total area of 618 square miles (1,600 km2), of which 7.4 square miles (19 km2) (1.2%) is water and 611 square miles (1,580 km2) is land. The county has a number of cities which include: Cobden, Comfrey (partial), Evan, Hanska, New Ulm (county seat), Sleepy Eye and Springfield.

Brown County borders the following counties:  Nicollet County to the northeast, Blue Earth County to the southeast, Watonwan County to the south, Cottonwood County to the southwest, Redwood County to the west and Renville County to the northwest. The county has five major highways: U.S. Highway 14, Minnesota State Highway 4, Minnesota State Highway 15, Minnesota State Highway 68 and Minnesota State Highway 257.
