Kathy Eiden has a huge responsibility: It’s her job to safely deliver students — “precious cargo,” in her words — to and from school. The distracted drivers. The speeding vehicles. The careless motorists. Those are out of her control. That’s why Eiden and the parents of an 11-year-old Rosemount girl almost hit and killed after getting off her school bus joined law enforcement officials this week to urge drivers to pay attention and know the law that requires motorists to stop at least 20 feet from a bus with its lights flashing and stop arm out.

The City of Las Vegas is in our thoughts and prayers.

ST. PAUL -- Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings Monday until sunset on Friday, October 6 to respect the victims of the Las Vegas shooting Sunday evening.

As directed by President Donald Trump, flags will be flown at half-staff immediately.

"The terrible attack in Las Vegas has shocked and horrified the conscience of every American," said Dayton in a release Monday. "I urge all Minnesotans and all Americans to call upon our own best natures, put aside our differences and work for an end to this insane violence. I also ask for special prayers for the recovery of Minnesota Phillip Aurich, who was critically wounded in the attack. His family's Facebook post asks everyone to 'keep Phil, his children Reagan and Ryder, and his parents Mike and Mindy in their prayers.'"
