We continue National Police Week with photos from the Douglas County Sheriff's Honor Guard trip to the Peace Officer's Memorial at the State Capitol grounds earlier this week. This year marks the 40th anniversary of fallen Douglas County Deputy Curt Felt’s line of duty death (June 29th, 1978).

Thank you to our honor guard for continuing to commemorate Deputy Felt, and all fallen officers, in this way; it is truly moving.

This week is National Police Week and marks the 40th anniversary of fallen Douglas County Deputy Curt Felt’s line of duty death (June 29th, 1978). The Douglas County Sheriff’s Honor Guard will be returning to St. Paul for Peace Officer’s Memorial Day on May 14th and 15th to stand guard at the Peace Officer’s Memorial on the State Capitol grounds. They will be standing guard on May 14th from 2300-2320 and 2340-2400, and also on May 15th from 1200-1220. There will be a wreath laying ceremony to honor Deputy Felt on May 15th between 1100 and 1300. We would like to invite members of the community to join us for this event to honor Curt’s memory and this office for his ultimate sacrifice.

To honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, especially Deputy Felt, and to recognize National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day, uniformed staff of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will display a black mourning band across their badge for the day. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Federation purchased commemorative mourning bands for each employee, imprinted with Curt’s badge number -207.

The flags at Curt Felt Memorial Park, and at the sheriff’s office and jail, will be flown at half-staff on May 15th as well.
