Douglas County in Southeastern MN had a population of 36,009 based on the 2010 census. The county seat is named Alexandria. The county was first established in 1858 and got organized in 1866. It was named after Stephen Douglas from Illinois. The Alexandria Lakes is found in Douglas County, which is the only grape appellation in Minnesota. The County’s total area is 637 square miles.

Details: On 2/12/18 at 11:51a.m. the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Alexandria Fire Department responded to the address of 3505 Maple Dr SE for a structure fire. The fire started near a wood stove located in the attached garage. The Alexandria Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire before major damage occurred to the home. No injuries were reported on scene.
The responding agencies were the Douglas County Sheriffs Office, Alexandria Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance.

Details: On 2/10/2018 at 12:39 p.m. the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Millerville Fire Department responded to the address of 14360 Co Rd 24 NW for a structure fire. Millerville Fire Dept was able to extiguish the fire before major damage was caused to the structure. While on scene a Millerville fire fighter was treated by Ashby ambulance for exhaustion. The fire was caused by a wall mounted propane heater.

Responding agencies were the Millerville Fire Department, Ashby Ambulance, North Ambulance and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Details: During the past few weeks, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office has received a number of fish house break-ins, thefts and damage to property complaints. The sheriff's office has responded to these calls on Lake Brophy, Freeborn Lake, Lake Mary, Lake Darling and Lake Le Homme Dieu. Suspects force their way into the fish houses looking for items. On the Lake Darling break-ins, Deputies were able to located tracks from two suspects who used a pickup to travel from fish house to fish house.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to not approach suspects and call authorities if they notice any suspicious activity. It is recommended that anyone with a fish house on the lake to not leave valuable items in the fish house.

Complainant/Victim: Svetlana Fedje and Vladislav Connell, Evansville, MN

Details: On 02/07/2018 at 3:38pm the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Evansville Fire Department responded to 20932 Horseshoe Rd NW for a report of a barn fire. Deputies arrived on scene and found a small barn used to house chickens and sheep on fire. Evansville Fire Department called Brandon Fire Department for mutual aid to assist in extinguishing the fire. The fire was believed to be caused by a heat lamp located inside the barn. The homeower was successful in getting all animals out of the barn.

The barn is believed to be a total loss. Responding agencies were the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Evansville Fire Department, Brandon Fire Department and Ashby Ambulance.

Incident: Snowmobile Accident
Location: Lake Miltona
Victim: Aidan Mchugh 27 YOA (Ireland)

Details: On 02/02/18 at 2:49pm the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a snowmobile accident on Lake Miltona. Douglas County Deputies, Miltona First Responders, North Ambulance, and Life Link III responded to the area of Krohnfeldt Dr. Upon arrival, a 27 year old male, later identified as Aidan Mchugh, was found unconscious about 300 yards from shore. McHugh was out with one other snowmobiler, who was in front of him. He did not witness the crash occur. It appears to be a single machine crash, but the cause is unknown. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor. McHugh was transported by Life Link III for non life threatening injuries.
