This evening the Dakota County Honor Guard, along with several other department honor guards attended the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial. The memorial commemorates those Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It is held on the State Capitol grounds, beginning on the evening of May 14th and ending the evening of May 15th with a candle light vigil. During which the Honor Guards march to the Peace Officers Memorial where they stand guard around those in attendance.

In 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed into Public Law the week in which May 15th falls, will be known as National Police Week. This week is to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of our Country’s Law Enforcement. Below is a picture of the National Law Enforcement Memorial. On the memorial walls are more than 21,000 names of Officers who have payed the ultimate sacrifice. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office has lost two Deputies in the line of Duty.
