CAN YOU REALLY TEXT TO 911?
YES, BUT WE WOULD PREFER TO TALK...

Last week the State of Minnesota announced that Text to 911 was deployed across all of Minnesota. While this is true, we would like to emphasize that we would much rather have a voice conversation with you if at all possible!

"CALL IF YOU CAN, TEXT IF YOU CAN'T!"

That is the motto. Texting takes much longer to relay information and location information may be less accurate than with traditional phone calls. Dispatchers also lose the ability to hear the context and background of the scene.

If for safety reasons or other reasons you are not able to make a voice call, texting is now an option. Text to 911 also offers an easily accessible solution for people who are deaf, deafblind, hard of hearing, or have a speech impairment. It would be helpful to advise of this early in the text conversation and inform the dispatcher right away.

Texting to 911 is not a "tip line" and is for actual emergencies only! Texting to 911 is not anonymous and it is also a crime to Text to 911 without having an emergency. So even if you are shy and prefer to text, we would rather talk to you. All of our 911 Dispatchers are professional, courteous and here to help.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
PROJECT LIFESAVER DONATIONS...

We would like to give a big shout out to the Bemidji Jaycees for their support of Project Lifesaver from a recent pancake fundraiser. They presented to the check to Deputy Scott Hinners who is one of the deputies assigned to Project Lifesaver.

The First National Bank Bemidji is always looking at helping the community in their investment needs, but they also invest in our community! In the spirit of the holiday season, employees give back to their community by paying it forward. The nine different departments of First National Bank Bemidji were given $100 in seed money and encouraged to find a cause that their group would like to support. Each department gets to decide how to “grow” that money to give to a local organization. The Transaction Processing Department raised $304 this year and are proud to donate to Project Lifesaver!

Let's give a thumbs up to these two great donations to PLS!

INCREASE IN SCAM CALLS...

We have been receiving an increase in scam calls the last few days. The scammers are spoofing local phone numbers and calling people offering credit cards and other services to lower interest rates. Unless you initiate a call you should never provide your personal information to people you do not know.

Keep in mind, that just because the number looks local doesn't mean it is! In fact, it most likely isn't. Because of the technological capabilities of "spoofing" they can make their phone number look however they want!
