Chisago County is located in the state of Minnesota; the county was formed in September 1, 1851 and named after Chisago Lake. North Branch is the largest city in the county while the county seat is Center City. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 53, 887 and a total area of 442 square miles (1,140 km2), of which28 square miles (73 km2) (6.2%) is water and 415 square miles (1,070 km2) is land. The county has a number of cities which include:  Harris, Lindström, Shafer, North Branch, Center City (county seat), Chisago City, Rush City, Stacy, Taylors Falls and Wyoming.

Chisago County borders the following counties: Pine County, Minnesota to the north, Burnett County, Wisconsin to the northeast, Polk County, Wisconsin to the east, Washington County, Minnesota to the south, Anoka County, Minnesota to the southwest, Isanti County, Minnesota to the west and Kanabec County, Minnesota to the northwest. Major highways that pass through the county include; Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 8, U.S. Highway 61, Minnesota State Highway 95, Minnesota State Highway 243 and Minnesota State Highway 361. Saint Croix National Scenic River way is the only National protected are in the county.
