Chippewa County Minnesota Public Records

Chippewa County is located in the state of Minnesota; the county was formed in 1862. Organized in 1868 and named after the Chippewa River. Montevideo is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 12,441 people and a  total area of 588 square miles (1,520 km2), of which 6.7 square miles (17 km2) (1.1%) is water and 581 square miles (1,500 km2) is land. The following cities are located in the county:  Clara City, Granite Falls (partial), Maynard, Milan, Montevideo (county seat) and Watson.

Chippewa County borders the following counties: Swift County to the north, Kandiyohi County to the northeast, Renville County to the southeast, Yellow Medicine County to the southwest and Lac qui Parle County to the west. The following highways pass through the county: U.S. Highway 59, U.S. Highway 212, Minnesota State Highway 7, Minnesota State Highway 23, Minnesota State Highway 29, Minnesota State Highway 40 and Minnesota State Highway 277.
