Cass County Minnesota Public Records

Cass County is located in the state of Minnesota; the county was formed in 1851 and organized in 1897. Before formal organization, land from Cass County was split off to form other of the surrounding counties. The county was named after Lewis Cass. The largest cities in the county are East Gull Lake and Lake Shore while the county seat is Walker. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 28,567 people and a total area of 2,414 square miles (6,250 km2), of which393 square miles (1,020 km2) (16%) is water and  2,022 square miles (5,240 km2) is land. The following cities are located in the county:  Backus, Bena, Boy River, Cass Lake, Chickamaw Beach, East Gull Lake, Federal Dam, Hackensack, Lake Shore, Longville, Motley (partial), Pillager, Pine River, Remer and Walker (county seat).

Cass County borders the following counties: Itasca County to the northeast, Aitkin County to the southeast, Crow Wing County to the southeast, Morrison County to the south, Todd County to the southwest, Wadena County to the west, Hubbard County to the west and Beltrami County to the northwest. Chippewa National Forest is the only National protected area in the county. Major highways in the county include: U.S. Highway 2, Minnesota State Highway 6, Minnesota State Highway 34, Minnesota State Highway 64, Minnesota State Highway 84, Minnesota State Highway 87, Minnesota State Highway 200, Minnesota State Highway 210 and Minnesota State Highway 371.
